Second Half Shutout Propels No. 10 Football over Santa Rosa

Oroville, Calif. - The No. 10 Butte football team held Santa Rosa to a scoreless second half en route to a 24-10 National NorCal-opening win on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Jailen Hammer has a big day for the Roadrunners in the receiving corp, counting eight receptions for 201 yards and two touchdowns. He counted the longest reception of the day to give Butte the 10-3 lead midway through the second quarter. His second score was a 26-yard reception, the last points for either team in the game.

Sophomore Tanner Hughes posted a solid 21-for-31 for 288 yards, earning the two touchdowns to Hammer. 

Freshman Christian Vaughn earned the team's other touchdown, putting six points on the board in the third quarter behind a 89 yards on 12 attempts day.

Defensively, freshman Marvelous Owens paced the Roadrunners with seven tackles, six solo, with a pair of picks and a tackle for loss. Sophomores Grant Garretson and Elijah O'Neal and freshmen Zach Valcarcel and Ousmane Doumbia all tallied four tackles each, led by O'Neal's two tackles for loss for 13 yards, including a late sack for seven yards.

The Roadrunners (4-2, 1-0) continue league play next week on the road at No. 24 American River. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. Tickets are on sale now via the American River Box Office. It is a cashless event.
