No. 8 Softball Splits with American River in Season Opener

Oroville, Calif. - The eighth-ranked Butte softball team split with American River, winning the front end 5-0 before falling 7-3, in the season opener on Saturday afternoon.

Both sophomore Alexis Detwiler and freshman Ella Jolley went 3-for-6 on the day. 

In game one, Detwiler's two hits were extra base with a triple and a homer. She added three total RBI on the day and scored a pair of runs for the Roadrunners.

Jolley and freshman Diana Hull both went 2-for-3 in game one with Hull tallying a solo homer. Jolley counted a double, adding a stolen base in each game.

In the circle, sophomore Maggie Smith (1-0) went six complete in the opening game, scattering four hits and fanning six. Sophomore Kiya Hamar threw one hitless inning to close out the contest, earning a pair of strikeouts.

Hamar started game two, allowing two earned runs and a pair of strikeouts. Freshman Avery Jolley (0-1) was charged with the loss after pitching a pair of innings, allowing three earned runs. 

Butte (1-1) remains home, hosting No. 5 Sierra next on Thursday, Feb. 2 for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
