Butte Baseball Avoids Sweep with Strong Offensive Showing Against Skyline
The Butte College baseball team entered the day determined to avoid a sweep against Skyline College in San Bruno, and they did just that, securing a crucial win to improve their season record to 4-2.
The Roadrunners got on the board early in the second inning with back-to-back doubles from Trent Van Nuys and Luke Zuromski, pushing across two runs. Skyline battled back to tie the game in the fifth, but Butte responded immediately. In the sixth inning, Jack Howsley led off with a double, followed by an RBI single from Van Nuys. Zuromski then laced another double to extend the lead.
The long ball took over late in the game, as Aidan Santos launched a solo home run in the seventh, and Grant Sonka added another in the ninth to cap off the scoring.
On the mound, Jacob Cullen set the tone with a strong start, allowing just one run on one hit through four innings. Nate Simonton took over for the final five frames, shutting down the Trojans and earning the win.
With the victory the Roadrunners will be back in action at Sacramento City on Tueday.
