Butte College Rallies in the 9th to Defeat Sacramento City College, 8-7
The Butte College Roadrunners secured a dramatic 8-7 comeback win over Sacramento City College, with Jaden Thomson delivering the game-winning blow in the bottom of the ninth. Thompson, who had a clutch two-run double earlier in the game, came through once again with another two-run double to seal the victory, finishing the day with four RBIs.
Mason Ali picked up his first win of the season for Butte, while Gino Marble closed out the ninth inning to earn his first save.
The Roadrunners took an early lead in the second inning when Drew Carrington drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double. After the Panthers got on the board in the third, Butte quickly regained momentum as Chico native Trent Van Nuys launched a solo home run to start the fourth inning, pushing the lead back to three.
Butte extended its lead in the fifth, beginning with three straight singles from Aidan Santos, Grant Sonke, and Jason Olsen. With the bases loaded, head coach Anthony Ferro made a key move, pinch-hitting Thompson for Jack Howsley, who promptly delivered a two-run double. Van Nuys followed with an RBI single to cap off the inning.
Despite a strong push from Sacramento City, Butte's resilience shined through in the final frame. Thompson's heroics completed the comeback, keeping the Roadrunners rolling early in the season.
Butte will travel to Saratoga to play West Valley in a three game series that was moved due to heavy rain in Northern California where the Roadrunners will play a single game on Friday and a double header on Saturday vs. the 2024 3C2A Final Four Vikings.
