Oroville, Calif. - The Butte softball team fell to Santa Rosa, 4-2 and 9-3, in the team's season opener on Saturday.
Freshman Chloe Giannini belted a triple in game one, while sophomore Kylee Richhart and freshman Emily Thurman both batted a run in. Freshman Cabria Childers was charged with the complete-game loss on the rubber, allowing five hits, while striking out four.
In game two, freshman Midasia Wathen went 2-for-4 to lead the Roadrunners with a double and a pair of runs scored, adding a stolen base. Freshmen Breanna Williams and Nicole Grupe each counted a double, while Williams tallied a pair of RBI.
Williams (0-1) was charged with the loss in the circle, giving up six hits with five strikeouts.
Butte (0-2) heads to Cosumnes River next for a doubleheader on Tuesday, Jan. 30 starting at 12 p.m.
