Visalia, Calif. - Freshman Jocelyn Medina dropped 17 points to lead the No. 2 Butte women's basketball team to a 48-42 tournament title win over No. 5 Delta in the 46th Annual Tom Gilcrest Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman guard Campbell Vieg as named to the All-Tournament Team, while Medina was tabbed the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Medina shot 70 percent from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range, adding four rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Sarah Tait added a double-double effort with 11 points and 11 rebounds, chipping in three assists.
After a back-and-forth game, the Roadrunners went on a 9-0 run to close the third quarter, taking a six-point lead into the final 10 minutes, matching point-for-point as time expired.
Butte (10-1) continues non-conference competition, heading to the Foothill Tournament next, facing Hartnell first on Friday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m.
