Monterey Park, Calif. - The No. 1 Butte women's basketball team stopped San Bernardino Valley, 97-40, in the team's opening contest of the Okawa Classic, hosted by East Los Angeles College
Freshman Morgan Trigueiro led all scorers with 24 points, adding three assists, while sophomore Madalynn Bassett also recorded a 20-plus points game with 21 and three assists. Freshman Campbell Vieg rounded out the scorers in double figures with 10 points, three rebounds, and six assists. Sophomore Reagan Marroquin chipped in nine points off the bench.
The Roadrunners doubled up on the Wolverines in the paint, scoring 40, adding 39 points off turnovers, and 34 points from the bench. Butte forced 29 total SBVC turnovers, while limiting its turnovers to 13, adding 17 steals as a team.
Butte (17-1) continues competition in the Okawa Classic, facing No. 3 Orange Coast next on Friday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m.
