The Butte College Roadrunners volleyball team had a productive third week of the 2025 season, securing two impressive victories. The week was highlighted by their home opener victory and a three set win at the Delta Classic.
The Roadrunners started the week on a high note, defending their home court for the first time on Wednesday, September 3rd, against Yuba College. In front of a home crowd, Butte delivered a commanding performance, sweeping Yuba in three straight sets with scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 26-24.
The team then traveled to the Delta College Classic, a two-day tournament held on September 5th and 6th. The first day of the classic was a mixed bag of results. The Roadrunners opened the tournament against American River College, who were ranked #10 in the state. Despite a valiant effort, the Roadrunners fell to the ranked squad in three sets, with scores of 25-12, 25-22, and 25-17. However, they quickly regrouped and ended the day on a positive note, earning their second victory of the week by sweeping Santa Rosa Junior College in three tight sets (25-23, 25-21, 25-23).
The second day of the tournament proved to be a challenge for the Roadrunners as they faced two more losses. They were swept by Lassen College (25-14, 25-19, 25-19) and then fell to Sierra College in three sets (25-11, 26-24, 25-15).
A key player in the team's success was Joie Perez, who was selected as the Roadrunner Volleyball Player of the Week. Perez had a strong all-around performance in the five matches, earning 20 points with 8 kills, 6 blocks, and 6 aces. She also demonstrated her offensive efficiency with a .316 attack percentage and a 42% kill percentage.
Despite the tournament setbacks, the Roadrunners' two victories this week demonstrate their potential and resilience. The team's record now stands at 4-6. Looking ahead to Week 4, the Roadrunners will travel to Folsom Lake College to take on both the host Falcons and the visiting Gavilan College Rams on Wednesday, September 10th at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm respectively.
