Athletic Training Services

The Butte College Sports Medicine Center, located on the northeast side of the men's locker room, is a state-of-the-art healthcare facility designed for the prevention and care of athletic injuries for our 300-plus student-athletes. On-site daily care is provided for all of our Roadrunner student-athletes, which includes, but not limited to; injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and healthcare advising. The physical health and safety of our student-athletes is of most importance to all Butte College staff members (coaches, instructors, and medical staff).

The Butte College Sports Medicine/Athletic Training staff consists of two certified athletic trainers, approximately 10 athletic training students and additional staff members that consist of three doctors (two orthopaedic surgeons and one general practitioner) and a physical therapist, all working towards providing the Roadrunner student-athletes the best available medical care in the area. In addition, a network of other specialists, which include dentists, podiatrists, nutritionists and more, are all available for any of the Butte College student-athletes' needs. The Butte College Sports Medicine/Athletic Training staff is constantly continuing the educational process by keeping informed on all of the various advancements in the changing field of sports medicine.

Athletic Training Student Internship

Butte College Sports Medicine/Athletic Training offers a student internship program to a limited number of students interested in an allied health profession specializing in the healthcare of athletes and physical active individuals. Athletic Trainers function as integral members of the athletic healthcare team and specialize in the prevention, assessment/ evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Athletic training student interns work with our Certified Athletic Trainers and Team Physicians to provide general healthcare to all athletic programs at Butte College. The Athletic Training Student Internship (ATSI) allows both basic knowledge and practical experience in the field of athletic training.

The goal of our coursework and practical experience is to provide students with the basic concepts of athletic injury management. Our educational experience in sport injuries will be advantageous for students interested in possibly pursuing degrees in a variety of healthcare professions such as medicine, physical therapy and coaching. The ATSI provides the opportunity of hands on experience of two years in a variety of settings that include college/university, secondary schools and physical therapy clinic. Students accepted to the ATSI will work towards completing their general education requirements in order to transfer to a four-year accredited institute.
