Bio

Melody Stockwell took over the helm of Roadrunner Athletics as Director of Health, Kinesiology, and Athletics in September 2021. She added the title of Deputy Title IX Coordinator in May 2023.

In 2023-24, Stockwell helped former football punter/kicker be named the 3C2A Male Scholar-Athlete of they Year, marking the fourth honor in school history. Additionally, three teams - men's basketball, women's basketball, and football - were tabbed Scholar Teams of the Year. The women's basketball team had another successful run to the 3C2A State Championships, advancing to the Final Four, while both men's and women's cross country teams qualified for the 3C2A State Meet. The football team boasted the most Academic All-State selections with 10, the men's soccer team was the lone 3C2A program to earn the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, and the baseball team earned its third-straight ABCA Academic Excellence Award.

During the 2022-23 academic year, Stockwell helped former softball pitcher Savannah Wahl earn 3C2A Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors - the third honor in school history for Butte College - while also being named the first-ever National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in school history. The athletic department also boasted a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American in football punter/kicker Dante Jackson - the only 3C2A student-athlete to earn the honor on both the men's and women's teams - and 3C2A Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll recipient in former football and baseball student-athlete Austin York, while the women's basketball and softball teams were named the 3C2A Scholar Teams of the Year for their respective sports. She increased individual team fundraising by utilizing eTeamSponsor's FundRaker platform and partnered with Interwest Insurance as a new sponsor of the athletic department. All but one program advanced to postseason play with the women's basketball program falling just short of the 3C2A title. In total, six programs were crowned conference champions.

In her first year at Butte, Stockwell created the athletic department's social media presence with an Instagram account that garnered over 800 followers in less than 10 months, while also revamping the athletic website through PrestoSports. Additionally, the athletics department moved to a cashless box office for all ticket sales and partnered with Enloe Regional Cancer Center for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On the academic side, she created the Scholar-Athlete recognition program and helped football quarterback Brian Harper and Wahl earn CSC Academic All-America honors - the only 3C2A student-athletes to be honored during the 2021-22 academic year.

In addition to her daily duties, she is active in a number of national and state organizations including serving as an at-large representative on the NATYCAA Executive Board and a member of the Communications and Scholar-Athlete committees; CSC member; 3C2A Awards Committee member; softball representative, Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH) taskforce chair, and a member of the Competition Committee on the 3C2A Management Council; Communications Liaison for the California Community College Athletic Directors Association (CCCADA); serving on the 3C2A COVID-19 Working Group; part of the Constitution Committee within the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA); president of the Northern California Football Conference (NCFC) National NorCal League; and athletic director representative for women's volleyball in the Golden Valley Conference (GVC). She previously served as the athletic director representative overseeing women's volleyball and beach volleyball within the South Coast Conference (SCC), SCC representative to the Association of California Community College Eligibility Specialists (ACCCES), as well as holding the role of Don MacKenzie Scholarship chair and assisting the SCC program review committee.

Prior to Butte, she worked at Long Beach City College, beginning her stint with the Vikings in December 2018 in the position of Athletic Coordinator after spending the previous two years as Athletic Coordinator at Compton College. Her role included supervising all aspects of the athletic programs as they relate to game management, facilities, schedules, athletic eligibility, physical examinations, equipment, transportation, insurance, and risk management, and she oversaw the Student-Athlete Success Center and evaluation of NCAA and NAIA transferability of student-athletes. While at LBCC, she helped baseball player Mark Stanford become the first 3C2A student-athlete to earn CSC Academic All-America honors, while also being instrumental in assisting the football program to lead the state in the most NCAA Division I transfers in 2019.

She began her career at the two-year level at El Camino College, where she was named the Sports Information Specialist in September 2015. She oversaw the design and implementation of ECCWarriors.com, while also increasing the athletic department's social media presence on Twitter by over 300 percent. Other main job functions included website maintenance, statistics, media relations, and award nominations for El Camino's 22 athletics programs. From 2018-22, she also assisted Solano College with the creation and maintenance of its athletic website, as well as other design projects for the athletics department.

Additionally, she assisted in hosting the 2005 and 2006 Corvallis Regional and Super Regional for baseball, and oversaw the media relations efforts for the NCAA Division I 36-team Cathedral City Classic softball tournament.

Prior to her stint on staff with the Beavers, Stockwell completed a 10-month internship at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, overseeing women's volleyball and softball in the Strategic Communications office. Stockwell worked with the 2007 SoCon Softball Champion squad, including SoCon Pitcher and Freshman of the Year, Brooke Loudermilk. She assisted the NCAA in hosting the 2006 NCAA Division I FCS Championship game between Appalachian State and UMass at Finley Stadium. Following her time with the Mocs, she spent three months at Middle Tennessee State University, overseeing women's volleyball, men's and women's tennis, and baseball, before accepting the full-time position back at Oregon State.

In ventures outside of college athletics, Stockwell helped spearhead a Guinness World Record campaign as part of Rotary International's "The World's Biggest Commercial" in support of world polio eradication. She engaged a number of A-List celebrities and professional athletes, such as Hilary Duff, Ziggy Marley, Kristen Bell, Vanessa Lachey, Itzhak Perlman, and Tevin Coleman, to support other internationally-recognized non-profit clients including March of Dimes and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, while also helping facilitate a cross-marketing effort between the biopic "Love and Mercy" and the non-profit Little Kids Rock in 2014. Additionally, she advised celebrities and professional athletes in their personal philanthropic endeavors and was involved in the production of soundtracks for a handful of Academy Award-winning movies including 12 Years A Slave.
