Baseball Announces Five Transfers

Oroville, Calif. - Five Butte baseball players are transferring to four-year institutions, announced Tuesday.

Peter Andrews (C/OF), RJ Aranda (LHP), John Barry (LHP), Sergio Gutierrez (RHP/UTIL), and Brennan White (INF) will all be transferring to continue their athletic and academic careers.

Peter Andrews (C/OF | 5-10 | R/R | Chico, Calif. (Pleasant Valley HS))
Andrews batted .316 in his 62 appearances in 2021 and 2022, notching 56 total hits - including 17 doubles, four triples, and four home runs. He added 56 runs and 35 RBI, drawing 40 walks and stealing eight bases. His career slugging percentage was .515. Behind the plate and in the outfield, he counted 257 putouts and 34 assists, while throwing out 12 runners and tallying four double plays.

Andrews joins Chico State (NCAA Division II), who completed 2022 with a 34-15 overall record, 27-12 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.

RJ Aranda (LHP | 5-9 | L/L | Oxnard, Calif. (Oxnard HS))
Aranda made 24 appearances for the Roadrunners between 2021 and 2022. The southpaw earned a 6-4 overall record with four saves, hurling 66.2 innings and averaging 9.18 strikeouts per nine innings. Overall, he posted a 3.64 ERA.

He signed with Cal State East Bay (NCAA Division II) located in Hayward, Calif. The Pioneers finished 2022 with a 24-26 overall record, 17-23 in the CCAA.

John Barry (LHP | 6-0 | L/L | Reno, Nev. (Reno HS))
After being sidelined late during the 2022 season with an injury, Barry went 7-3 overall in 19 appearances between 2021 and 2022. He pitched 68.0 innings, averaging 10.19 strikeouts per nine innings with a 3.97 ERA.

The lefty signed with MidAmerica Nazarene University (NAIA) located in Olathe, Kan. The Pioneers are currently sitting at 39-16 after a 26-6 finish in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The team is still playing as it has advanced to the 2022 Avista NAIA World Series.

Sergio Gutierrez (RHP/UTIL | 5-8 | L/R | Oxnard, Calif. (Oxnard HS))
Gutierrez capitalized on play on the bump in 2022, counting seven saves and a perfect 4-0 record. He made 19 career appearances on the mound, throwing 38.1 inning. He tallied 9.39 strikeouts per nine innings and chalked up a 2.82 ERA.

Offensively, Gutierrez batted .338 in 57 games. He tallied 44 total hits on 130 at bats with eight doubles and one triple, adding 23 RBI and three stolen bases.

He is transferring to Tabor College (NAIA) in Hillsboro, Kan. The Bluejays compiled a 38-19-1 overall record, 22-11 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Brennan White (INF | 5-11 | R/R | Yuba City, Calif. (Yuba City HS))
In his three seasons with the roadrunners, White batted .260 with 44 total hits, including nine doubles. He drew 37 walks while counting 19 RBI and 47 runs scored.

He will be transferring to Waldorf University (NAIA), located in Forest City, Iowa. The Warriors earned a 16-27 overall record this season, 12-10 in the North Star Athletic Association.
