Bio

The 2021 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) National Coach of the Year Anthony Ferro took over the helm of the Butte baseball program in 2004. During his tenure, his teams have compiled a record of 410-275-1, accumulated 15 20-plus win seasons, and have earned postseason berths in eight of the past 10 years. 

Ferro remains committed to the program's goal of not only producing quality baseball players, but quality people as well. He believes that success int he classroom is mandatory for the student-athletes, and he is committed to helping his players move toward a college degree. This attitude is ingrained in his players as they have proved extremely successful in the classroom, while being part of a winning baseball program. The team regularly maintains over a combined 3.0 GPA, and it has earned the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2021 and 2022 squads.

He consistently transfers student-athletes to four-year programs with their associates degrees with nearly eligible sophomore moving on to not only continue their academic careers but also to continue their dreams of playing baseball at the next level. He has placed over 150 players at four-year institutions, including 14 NCAA Division I transfers. Within that group, he was instrumental in the transfer of 2021 GVC Pitcher of the Year, Bryce Armstrong, who moved on to the University of Washington. Additionally, 2018 West Coast Player of the Year, Connor Blair, transferred to the University of Washington before joining the Atlanta Braves organization. Ferro has had over 60 student-athletes transfer to the NCAA Division II level, including 2021 West Coast Player of the Year, who transferred to Chico State. And he has had nearly 50 student-athletes transfer to NAIA institutions.

In 2022, the Roadrunners advanced to the Super Regionals for the first time under Ferro, upsetting Santa Rosa in the Regional round. The program finished second in the Golden Valley Conference (GVC) with a 18-7 conference mark, 28-16 overall. The program landed seven All-GVC honorees, led by first team selections Danelle Daniels, Sergio Gutierrez, Logan Meyers, and Austin York.

The 2021 Butte baseball team finished its campaign with a 23-3 record, winning the GVC Championship, while finishing the season ranked second in California. The season showed great individual success as well as the team's overall accomplishments. Armstrong was named as an All-American as well as the GVC Pitcher of the Year, Morgan also earned All-America honors in addition to his GVC MVP and West Coast Player of the Year honors, while Logan Meyers (All-American), John Barry, RJ Aranda, Isaac Schuck (All-NorCal), and Andre Schweizer all were named All-GVC First Team. Five other Roadrunners were tabbed All-GVC Second Team.

Before taking over the Butte baseball program, Ferro served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Butte. Ferro then spent part of two seasons as an assistant coach and head recruiting coordinator at Chico State under Lindsey Meggs, who just retired from the University of Washington after 13 seasons. Ferro was an intregal part of the Wildcats' 2002 campaign, where the team finished with an impressive 55-10 mark and finished as the runner-up at the NCAA Division II College World Series. 

Prior to Chico State, Ferro was the head assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at California State University, Stanislaus from 2000-01 after spending 16 years as an associate scout for the Milwaukee Brewers club.

Ferro has also spent summers coaching collegiate summer league teams. In 2021, he was the field manager of the prestigious Alaska Goldpanners, where he guided the program to a 32-15 record. And he also spent four seasons as the head coach of the Chico Stix semi-professional baseball team.

A native of Woodland, Calif., Ferro currently resides in Chico, Calif. and has two daughters, Grace and Audrey.
