No. 8 Football Wraps Regular Season with 53-34 Win over Shasta

Oroville, Calif. -  Sophomore Elijah O'Neal tallied 4.5 tackles for loss for 25 yards to lead the No. 8 Butte football team to a 53-34 regular-season ending win over Shasta on Saturday afternoon.

O'Neal recorded six total tackles the day, counting a sack for 11 yards as one of his tackles for loss. Freshman Spencer Osborn posted a pick-six for four yards in the fourth quarter to add to the defensive efforts. Overall, freshman Zach Valcarcel earned a team-high nine tackles, six solo, with freshman Aiden Sullivan chipping in seven, including 1.5 tackles for loss.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Roadrunners took the 17-14 advantage going into the break. Butte outscored Shasta 6-3 in the third before cruising to a 30-17 fourth quarter to seal the victory. 

Offensively, sophomore Caleb Ramseur earned a pair of rushing touchdowns on 16 attempts for 68 total yards, adding three receptions for 37 yards, while sophomores Jailen Hammer and DJ Jackson scored on passes from sophomore Tanner Hughes. On the day, Hughes threw a total of 270 yards, including the 70-yard reception by Jackson - his lone catch of the day. Hughes and freshman quarterback Rieger Sayre also counted rushing touchdowns. 

The Roadrunners (7-3, 4-1) will await their postseason fate to be announced on Sunday, Nov. 20.
