No. 6 Football Falls at No. 3 San Francisco

San Francisco, Calif. - Costly turnovers and penalties plagued the No. 6 Butte football team as it fell, 27-15, at No. 3 San Francisco on Saturday afternoon.

The Roadrunners had five turnovers and 136 yards worth of penalties in the loss, despite nearly matching the Rams in total offense.

The Butte defense spent more than half of the game on the field, and sophomore linebacker Aiden Sullivan made his time count with a game-high 12 tackles, seven solo, a pair of tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a 39-yard fumble recovery for a six points on the board. Sophomore Gabe Foster also had a big day, tallying three sacks for 22 yards and forching two fumbles, including the fumble that Sullivan returned for a touchdown.

Sophomore Jonah Marcaida started the scoring for the Roadrunners in the team's first possession, returning the opening kickoff for a 94-yard return to give the Roadrunners the early 6-0 edge. A 21-yard field goal by freshman Danny Alvarez capped a 10-play, 57-yard, scoring drive in 5:57.

Sophomore running back Christian Vaughn posted 92 yards on the day on 15 attempts with a long of 30, while sophomore tight end Landon Cooper had six receptions for 83 yards. 

Butte (2-1) returns home to host No. 10 Modesto next on Saturday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m., and the 2013 Championship team will be honored at halftime.
