No. 5 Football Comes Up Short Against No. 7 American River

Oroville, Calif. - The No. 5 Butte football team came up short against No. 7 American River, 40-12, on Saturday afternoon.

The Roadrunners suffered four turnovers in the game, only resulting in one score for American River. But despite 19 first downs and 349 total yards of offense, the Roadrunners were only able to put two touchdowns on the board behind a 16-yard pass to sophomore Da'Ron Finkley and a nine-yard rush by sophomore quarterback Rieger Sayre.

On the day, Sayre went 19-30 for 205 yards with a long of 60. Finkley earned five total receptions on the day for 102 yards, while sophomores Tre Patterson and Landon Cooper had three receptions each for over 30 yards apiece.

Defensively, sophomores Ousmane Doumbia and Aiden Sullivan combined for 19 tackles and a pair of tackles for loss. Sullivan added a pass break up and quarterback hurry, while freshman Dylan Labarbera tallied five tackles with the team's lone sack.

Butte (5-2, 1-1) heads back out on the road to Sierra next on Saturday, Oct. 28. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
