Big Second Quarter Propels No. 8 Football to Huge Win at Shasta

Redding, Calif. - The No. 8 Butte football team scored 44 points in the second quarter alone en route to a 58-13 win at Shasta on Saturday evening in the regular season finale.

The Roadrunners peeled off 58-straight points with a balanced offense and some help from their return team. Sophomore Jonah Marcaida tallied his third return for a touchdown, second on punt return, for 52 yards with sophomore Tre Patterson counting an 83-yard kickoff return for a score. 

Sophomore quarterback Rieger Sayre went 12-for-21 for 215 yards with three touchdowns, with sophomores Landon Cooper and Da'Ron Finkley each earning a touchdown with Patterson rounding out the receivers who scored. Sayre added a rushing touchdown, while sophomore Christian Vaughn traveled for 121 yards on 18 attempts with a touchdown in the ground game.

The defense also shined in the win, led again by Marcaida with tallied a team-high seven tackles with two for loss and a pick. Sophomore Ousmane Doumbia earned the team's other interception, turning it into six points, muscling his way for 38 yards into the end zone. Sophomores Gabe Foster and Derik Lawing and freshmen Malachi Calhoun and Dylan Labarbera all recorded sack efforts with 12 total Roadrunners earning at least part of a tackle for loss.

Butte (8-2, 4-1) awaits its postseason fate with bowl games being determined on Sunday, Nov. 12.
