Men's Soccer Battles to Draw in Season Opener

Modesto, Calif. - After falling behind early, the Butte men's soccer team battled to a 3-3 draw at Modesto on Friday afternoon.

The Pirates jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first minute of play, but it was all about the Roadrunners from the 18th minute on. 

Freshman Luca De Assis Almeida counted the first score for Butte in the 18th minute off a feed from freshman Estefano Garcia. Freshman Mohamed Benguellal cut the margin to one on his goal in the 58th minute. Sophomore Quintin Benn-John tallied the assist. And sophomore Sander Trevor equalized the match on his penalty kick in the 78th minute.

Sophomore keeper Louis Hester played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Roadrunners, earning a save.

Butte (0-0-1) hosts Cosumnes River next for the team's home opener on Tuesday, Aug. 30. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
