No. 8 Men's Soccer Blanks No. 9 Cabrillo to Advance to Round 3

Oroville, Calif. - Sophomore Joshua Smith counted a goal and a pair of assists as the No. 8 Butte men's soccer team blanked No. 9 Cabrillo, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.

The Roadrunners chalked up 17 total shots, 10 on goal, in the team's first cardless match of the year.

Freshman Estefano Garcia scored the go-ahead goal in the 21st minute off a feed from Smith to take a 1-0 edge into the break. Smith quickly came out and scored an insurance goal in the 54th minute with sophomore Quintin Benn-John picking up the assist. Smith and sophomore Jovani Casillas-Escajedo teamed up to help sophomore Sander Trevor net the final score of the match.

Freshman keeper Noris Iten played all 90 minutes in the goal, tallying five saves.

The Roadrunners (16-2-4) will host No. 17 Clovis on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. for the CCCAA Men's Soccer Northern Regional Round 3. The winner will head to either No. 4 De Anza or No. 5 Merced on Saturday, Nov. 26 for the CCCAA Men's Soccer Northern Regional Final.
