Men's Track and Field Captures Fifth-Straight GVC Title; Women's Track Finishes Second

Oroville, Calif. - The Butte men's and track team captured its fifth-straight Golden Valley Conference title with the women's team finishing second on Friday.

The men's team scored 119 points, edging second-place Redwoods, who finished with 78. The women's team scored 103 points, just 20 points behind Redwoods.

Eight individual event titles were won by Butte. Freshman Jamie Marlin captured the 100 meter dash title in 10.98, as well as the 200 meter dash in 22.35. Sophomores Liam Sehorn (4:10.86) and Michael Sides (4:11.13) went one-two in the 1,500 meters, Sehorn (16:30.16), sophomore Matthew Garcia (16:32.95), and Sides (17:29.09) earned the top three spots in the 5,000 meters, and freshman Robert Moncrief won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:59.38. And Butte won the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 42.79.

In the field events, sophomore Blake Suer took the pole vault title at a height of 3.90 meters, while freshman Tre Patterson won the long jump in a distance of 6.61 meters. And top-seeded freshman Brandon Smith won the javelin title with a throw of 59.19 meters.

On the women's side, the team earned seven top finishes. Sophomore Madison Kalberer won the 400 meter dash in a time of 59.09, while also helping the 4x100 meter relay team to a first-place finish in 48.70 and 4x400 meter relay to win in 4:22.25. Sophomore Lydia Binger swept the hurdle events, winning the 100 meter hurdles in 15.80 and 400 meter hurdles in 1:09.42. And freshman Mikayla Logue (10.53 meters) captured the shot put title with sophomore Julia Norman (10.45 meters) coming in second with Norman also winning the javelin (36.56).

The teams head to the NorCal Trials next on Friday, May 5, hosted at Yuba.
