Smith Named All-American to Lead Track and Field at State Championships

Modesto, Calif. - Freshman Brandon Smith earned All-America honors in javelin to lead the Butte track and field teams at the 3C2A State Championships.

Smith finished fourth overall with a best mark of 55.31. Freshman Namontte Grisby placed 11th in the state for discus with a mark of 41.27.

On the women's side, freshman Talynn Schroeder captured All-State accolades with a seventh-place finish in the heptathlon with a score of 3815. Sophomore Madison Kalberer placed ninth in the 200 meters in 25.53, while sophomore Julia Norman earned All-State honors in the javelin, finishing eighth overall with a best mark of 33.07. And the 4x400 meter relay team (freshman Zoe Knowles and sophomores Kalberer, Norman, and Lydia Binger) was also All-State with an eighth place finish in a time of 4:05.82.

Overall, the men's team placed 30th with five points, while the women's team was 31st with four points.
