Garcia, Sides Post Top 10 Finishes at George Brooks Invite

Martinez, Calif. - Sophomores Matthew Garcia and Michael Sides led the Butte men's cross country team with sophomore Ariana Smedley paced the women's side.at the George Brooks Invitational, hosted by Diablo Valley, on Friday morning. 

Garcia placed sixth overall (23:06) in the 62-runner field with Sides finishing 10th (23:11). The men's team finished fifth overall. Freshman Cristopher Velazquez-Patino rounded out the top three for the Roadrunners, earning 25th in a time of 24:40.

On the women's side, Smedley placed 24th (22:04) out of 49 runners to lead the team to a sixth place finish. Freshman Grace Becker was next, finishing 26th (22:35), with freshman Risa Reynier rounding out the team's top three finishers with a 29th place finish in 23:09.

The cross country teams remain on the road, heading to the Modesto Invite on Friday, Sept. 30. The women's race will start at 3:15 p.m., and the men will run at 4 p.m. at Tuolumne River Regional Park.
