Cross Country Captures Men's Team Title; Places Four Women in the Top 10

Oroville, Calif. - In the teams' first race at home, the men took home the team title, while four women placed in the top 10 at the Butte Invite on Friday morning.

Sophomores Michael Sides (21:50) and Matthew Garcia (22:38) captured the top two spots in the four-mile race with freshman Cristofer Velazquez-Patino (22:59) rounding out the race's top three. Sophomore Jeremiah Knoch finished seventh (24:17) with sophomore Zane Kowalkowski earning 10th (25:38) to post his finish to the team's score.

On the women's side, sophomore Ariana Smedley paced the 5,000-meter race for the Roadrunners, finishing third overall in 21:07. Freshmen Grace Becker and Kayti Russell finished sixth (22:28) and seventh (24:38), respectively, followed by freshman Haley Willison in 10th (26:29).

The Roadrunners head back out for more competition, taking on the field at the Pat Ryan Invitational, hosted by Santa Rosa, on Friday, Oct. 14. The women's race is slated to begin at 2 p.m. with the men following at 2:45 p.m.
