Cross Country Teams Finish Top 8; Qualify for State Championship Meet

Martinez, Calif. - The Butte men's and women's cross country teams qualified for the 3C2A State Championships with the men finishing sixth (157) and the women taking eighth place (178) on Friday.

The last time the men's team qualified for the state meet was in 2016 and the women last qualified in 2015.

Sophomore Robert Moncrief was the top male finisher, finishing 18th overall out of 101 runners in a time of 22:46.2 on the four-mile course. Freshman Mark Velazquez-Patino was close behind in 21st place in 22:54.8.

On the women's side, freshman Jasmine Guzeldere placed 23rd overall in the 78-runner field on the 5K course in 20:32. Sophomore Risa Reynier posted the second-best time, finishing 34th in 21:13.1

The Roadrunners head to the 3C2A State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. The women's race begins at 10 a.m. with the men's race to follow at 11 a.m.
