Women's Basketball Downs Defending State Champs, 69-56

Oroville, Calif. - Three Roadrunners chalked up double-figure points games en route to downing the defending state champions, Sierra, 69-56, on Thursday evening.

Butte got off to a hot start, outscoring the Wolverines 24-12 in the first quarter before taking a 44-28 lead into the locker room at half. Despite being edged by five points in the final 10 minutes, the Roadrunners held on to tie its largest margin of victory against a Northern California team.

Freshman Sarah Tait paced all Butte shooters with 18 points, while freshman Jordan Arreola chipped in 16 with eight boards. Sophomore Meghan Weinrich rounded out the scorers in double-digits with 12 points and a game-high 22 rebounds and four steals.

The Roadrunners (5-0) continue non-conference action, hosting American River on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m.
