Top-Seeded Women's Basketball Downs No. 16 Merced, 96-54

Oroville, Calif. - The top-seeded Butte women's basketball team racked up 24 points in the first 10 minutes en route to a 96-54 rout of Merced on Saturday evening in the CCCAA Women's Basketball Regional Round Two matchup.

Sophomore Meghan Weinrich racked up a game-high 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting with 16 boards, five assists, and five steals. Freshmen Jordan Arreola and Sarah Tait backed her up with 18 and 16 points, respectively. Arreola counted four three-pointers and three assists while Tait pulled down seven rebounds.

The Roadrunners outscored the Blue Devils 24-11 in the first quarter and never looked back, counting 52 points on easy buckets in the paint to Merced's 28. Butte added its lead, edging Merced by double figures in the following two quarters with assistance from the bench from players like freshman Madalynn Bassett's 11 points.

Sophomore Cassidy King racked up eight assists, while sophomore Sanaya Shrader counted nine points and six rebounds.

Butte (25-3) will host No. 8 Folsom Lake on Saturday, Mar. 4. The winner will advance to the CCCAA Elite Eight at the state tournament, hosted by West Hills Lemoore. Tickets for the Northern Regional Final contest will go on sale on Monday, Feb. 27 at 8 a.m.
