Los Altos Hills, Calif. - The No. 2 Butte women's basketball team capture its second-straight non-conference tournament title, defeating No. 14 Laney, 69-59, on Sunday evening in the title contest.
Freshman Jocelyn Medina led the team with 21 points, adding a game-high 14 boards with three assists and three steals. Sophomore Madalynn Bassett knocked down three three-pointers en route to 15 points, while freshman Morgan Trigueiro scored 12 points with four rebounds. Freshman Campbell Vieg tallied nine assists with four rebounds.
The Roadrunners overcame a five-point, first quarter deficit to head into the break knotted up with Laney at 27 apiece. Butte held a one-possession edge going into the final 10 minutes, holding on and adding to its lead in the final minutes.
Butte (13-1) looks to extend its winning streak as it heads to the San Francisco Tournament, facing No. 21 East LA first on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m.
