Hot Start and Balanced Offense Leads No. 1 Roadrunners Back to Elite Eight

Oroville, Calif. - In her last game in Cowan Gym, sophomore Madalynn Bassett led all scorers with 18 points as the No. 1 Butte women's basketball team topped No. 8 Cosumnes River, 74-48, on Saturday evening in the 3C2A Women's Basketball Regional Round 3.

The Roadrunners got off to a hot start, outscoring the Hawks 26-7 in the first 10 minutes before taking a 47-17 lead into the locker room at the half.

Bassett connected on 67 percent (6-of-9) of her field goal attempts, all three pointers, while sophomore Sarah Tait and freshmen Jocelyn Medina and Morgan Trigueiro chipped in a pair of treys each.

All five starters reached double-figures in the points column, while freshman Campbell Vieg recorded a double-double with 10 boards and four assists. Triguerio added six assists, while Bassett tallied nine rebounds. Sophomore Aubrey Prunty chipped in eight points and four boards off the bench.

Butte (29-1) will face the No. 4 seed from the south Long Beach City College on Thursday, Mar. 14 at 3 p.m. in the first round of the 3C2A State Championships.
