Women's Track Relay Breaks School Record; Men's and Women's Teams Take Title at NorCal Preview

Marysville, Calif. - The Butte women's 4x100 meter relay team made school history, smashing the previous record with a 47.53 mark at the NorCal Preview on Saturday to capture an A standard. Both the men's and women's teams easily cruised to first-place finishes at the meet.

The relay team made up of sophomores Madison Kalberer and Julia Norman and freshmen Kianna Ruffin and Talynn Schroeder topped the record of 49.02, set in 2010. Kalberer also took the top spot in the 100 and 200 meter races, while Norman took the javelin title with an A standard of 120-10.

On the men's side, freshman Brandon Smith continued his dominance in the javelin, earning another A standard with a throw of 170-4. He also took the 400 meter title, finishing in 53.27. The Roadrunners took the top four spots in the 800 meters, led by sophomore Jeremiah Knoch (2:01.62), followed by sophomores Liam Sehorn (2:01.99), Matthew Garcia (2:05.64), and Michael Sides (2:06.09), respectively. Sehorn, Sides, and Garcia also finished 1-2-3 in the 1,500 meters, while freshman Robert Moncrief won the 3,000-meter stepplechase (11:50.43) And freshman Noah Doratt won the high jump (5-10.75).

Butte returns home to host the Golden Valley Conference Championships next on Friday, Apr. 28. Field events will begin at 11 a.m.
