Track and Field Qualifies Seven for State Meet in Six Events

Marysville, Calif. - The Butte track and field teams qualified seven student-athletes for the 3C2A State Championships for six events at the NorCal Finals on Friday.

Overall, the men's team finished 17th with 18 points, while the women's team placed seventh with 44 points.

On the men's side, freshman Namontte Grisby will compete in the discus, while freshman Brandon Smith punched his ticket to state in the javelin. Grisby placed sixth with a best throw of 42.55, while Smith placed second with a mark of 57.71.

And on the women's side, freshman Talynn Schroeder will be competing in the heptathlon, and sophomores Lydia Binger, Madison Kalberer, and Julia Norman and freshman Zoe Knowles will compete in the 4x400 relay, while Kalberer will add the 200 meters and Norman will tack on competition in javelin.

Kalberer placed fourth overall in the 200 meters in a new personal best time of 25.18. Norman also finished fourth with a throw of 34.56. Schroeder, who qualified previously in the heptathlon, placed sixth with a score of 3665. And the 4x400 relay team set a new PR of 4:05.07, which was good for third overall in NorCal.

The 3C2A State Championships are on May 19-20 at Modesto Junior College.
