Women's Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches on Opening Day

Sacramento, Calif. - The Butte women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on opening day, falling 3-0 to Sierra (25-22, 25-9, 25-20) and 3-0 to Sacramento City (25-20, 25-21, 25-18), on Friday.

Against Sierra, freshman outside hitter Rylee Keim paced the Roadrunner offense with seven kills, while defensively, sophomore Kylie Walsh tallied 14 digs. Freshman middle blocker Abby Mertle counted a pair of solo blocks, while freshmen Maddie Friar and Zada Varner earned a solo and block assist each.

Keim continued to lead the Roadrunners against Sacramento City, earning nine kills on 23 total swings and adding a pair of aces. Mertle was a force at the net, chalking up two solo blocks and earning a pair of block assists. 

Butte (0-2) returns to action on Saturday, Aug. 26 on the road, facing Santa Rosa and Mendocino at Santa Rosa.
