Cross Country Opens 2022 at Fresno Invite

Fresno, Calif. - The Butte men's cross country team placed ninth, while the women's team finished 10th at the Fresno Invite on Saturday morning.

On the men's side, sophomore Matthew Garcia paced the Roadrunners with a 32nd place finish (22:49) in the 122-runner field on the four-mile course. Sophomore Michael Sides was close behind in 36th (23:01) with freshman Robert Moncrief rounding out the top three with a 49th-place finish in 23:46.

Sophomore Ariana Smedley led the women's team with a 31st place finish (22:55) out of 70 runners in the 5,000 meter route. Freshman Grace Becker placed 36th (23:12), and freshman Risa Reynier was 51st overall (25:02).

The men's and women's cross country teams head out to the NorCal Preview next on Saturday, Sept. 17, hosted by Redwoods. The women's race begins at 12 p.m. with the men to follow at 12:45 p.m.
