Becker; Garcia Lead Cross Country at NorCal Preview

Fortuna, Calif. - Freshman Grace Becker and sophomore Matthew Garcia paced the Butte women's and men's cross country teams with top 25 finishes at the NorCal Preview, hosted by Redwoods on Saturday morning.

Becker finished the 5,000-meter course in 21st place out of 52 runners in a time of 24:08. Freshmen Risa Reynier and Elizabeth Saldana rounded out the team's top three with 31st (26:24) and 37th (27:16) place finishes, respectively.

On the men's side, the Roadrunners placed seventh as a team out of 11 squads. Garcia placed 22nd (22:48) on the four-mile course with 95 total competitors with sophomore Michael Sides earning the second-best finish for the team with a 39th place finish in 23:52. Freshman Robert Moncrief came in third for the Roadrunners, 41st overall, in a time of 23:55. 

Butte remains on the road, heading to the George Brooks Invite next on Friday, Sept. 23. The women's 5,000-meter race is scheduled for 10 a.m., while the men's four-mile race is slated for 10:45 a.m.
